Drawing from her archive of 30,000 letters written by American women during World War II, Professor Litoff is available to talk about a variety of topics focusing on the experiences of women on the home front as well as women in the military during the Second World War.
Judy Barrett Litoff is a Professor of History at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, and is the author of 13 books and more than 100 articles, book chapters, and reviews in American women's history.
Over the last two decades, she has focused her research and writing on American women and the Second World War. Her research has included a nationwide search for women's correspondence that has resulted in the assembling of an archive of 30,000 wartime letters written by American women. These 30,000 letters provide clear and unequivocal evidence of the many important ways that women actively participated in the war effort, and they vividly illustrate women's growing sense of self and their place in the world. In short, they offer perceptive insights into heretofore unexplored, but fundamental, aspects of the war.
She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Humanities.
