Rhode Island has an amazing and colorful history of corruption - from its founding to its years as a haven for smugglers and slavers, from its ugly political wars of the nineteenth century to the present day. From the perspective of a journalist and newcomer, this lecture and discussion considers why long-time residents seem resigned to official corruption rather than outraged. Indeed, Rhode Islanders often find the antics of politicians amusing. What factors have contributed to creating a "culture of corruption" in the Ocean State? Share your ideas and opinions about this curious phenomenon.
