Executive Director
Mary-Kim joined the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities as Executive Director in July 2007 from Brown University's Division of Advancement. A Pawtucket resident and writer, Mary-Kim has strong roots in Rhode Island including serving as Board President of the International Charter School, Vice President of the Board of New Urban Arts, and as Board Secretary for the Women's Fund of Rhode Island. She received both her BA (English and American Literature) and MFA in Creative Writing from Brown University. Prior to her work in Alumni Relations and Development at Brown, Mary-Kim spent several years teaching creative writing and literature at Brown, the Rhode Island School of Design, and at Wheaton College. She is married to fiction writer Matthew Derby and is the mother of two children, Zooey (11) and William (1).
